On this coming Saturday, March 10th there will be a “Healthy Youth Celebration” hosted by the United Way and Pima County’s Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant. El Grupo has been part of a grant called Youth Health Leadership Teams since April of 2011 and many of the small changes we have been making and continue to make to enhance our program – especially in terms of nutrition and quality physical activity for youth – are a result of this grant and the work we have done together.
Parents, Youth and Community Members are asked to join in celebrating the work of Youth in Action Photovoice exhibits and Youth Health Leader’s action projects.
Where: Berger Performing Art Center, Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind -Tucson Campus; 1200 W Speedway Blvd, West Parking
Time: 3pm to 6pm (some refreshments will be provided)
The celebration involves over 10 different groups, one of which is El Grupo. We will have a few minutes to talk about work we have done, highlighting what many of you taught in Summer Bike Camp in terms of nutrition, hydration and the importance of physical activity to other youth. I will need one El Grupo youth to talk on stage with me and I will be approaching that person. If you are also interested in talking on stage, let me know.
Everyone must register to attend so they can plan accordingly. Here is the link, only takes a minute.
Also, there will be a Flash Mob dance at some point during the event and if you would like to learn the moves to join in, here is a link to the You Tube video.
