As Ignacio expressed on Facebook…THANKS!!! to everyone for helping out so much, for giving it your best on something completely new, and for having fun with Cyclocross in Tucson! It was a blast to watch and cheer you all on! Parents – you are wonderful and very very much appreciated!
This upcoming week the practice schedule is back to normal – check the training calendar for details. There are a couple things to put on your radar, though.
Optional: one of our return sponsors for the past several years – and going to be second largest sponsor in 2012! – is Technicians for Sustainability. They are having their annual holiday party on Thursday, December 8th from 6pm -9pm. Ignacio and Damiano will be going after practice and any El Grupo riders, parents or coaches who are interested and available are welcome to join them. Plenty of bike parking, food, drinks, slide show, and good conversation – and they are just up the road from the clubhouse at 612 N 7th Ave.
Optional: There will be a “Tucson Spokes” opening party at photographer Chris Mooney’s place on Friday 5-8pm and all those included in the book are invited. El Grupo has a two page spread, if you haven’t seen it yet. Again, if anyone would like to attend please feel welcome to go or accompany Ignacio and Damiano. Here are more details.
4th Ave Winter Street Fair: El Grupo will be hosting bike valet parking for the 4th Ave Street Fair (probably for the last time) and we get funds to do so. This means that we need folks to help out on Friday after school, Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 6pm. I am hoping that board members and parents can help out in the morning hours when riders are out for practice and that a few youth riders can sign up for an hour or two. Tips can go directly back into feeding you while you are there! Here is the map of where we will be stationed.
Please comment when you will be able to help! We don’t need a huge group there, but if there are a few of you hanging out it is more fun.
Finally, I did not include myself (Daniela) in many of these plans because I will be in San Diego presenting at a conference on El Grupo! I was selected to present on the topic I submitted, “Use your bike to change your life: youth teach youth about healthy lifestyles” and will be there – all expenses paid! – from Wednesday morning through Friday night. I am very excited to get to talk about how wonderful you all are – and about how El Grupo really is a model for other communities to learn from.
