We had a busy weekend with athletes competing in a couple of events. White Tanks Park in Phoenix saw more MBAA mountain bike action on Saturday, while closer to home the FlapJack Time Trial was held on Sunday at Picacho Peak. It certainly was nice to have a small sense of normalcy with racing available. We want to thank the efforts of the race promoters as both events were held with safety paramount. Here are the results;

Sunday we staged a virtual 2021 team jersey unveiling. Thanks to Sean and Ignacio for putting together a wonderful presentation. Team members were tasked to submit a short essay on what El Grupo has meant to them during Covid. Their responses were eloquent, wholehearted, and reinforced why the organization exists- helping empower our youth through the unique vehicle of cycling. I think we go into 2021 with renewed optimism and energy and with a fresh look that will only help to motivate the team to aspire to their goals.
Looming in the not so distant future are a couple of mountain bike races; the MBAA race in Lake Havasu on March 6 and closer to home, the Cactus Cup in Phoenix the weekend of March 12-14. For the latter, we will need to consider registration soon so please express your interest to attend Cactus Cup ASAP to either Ignacio or myself by the 22nd of February.
Before these races, Ignacio is planning a Chiricahua weekend on February 20-21. This is a no frills/no amenities camping trip with big 80+ mile gravel rides. If you’re interested in this adventure please RSVP asap to Ignacio.
