We had a memorable gravel experience last weekend up in Northern Arizona, just east of Payson. We all went through physical and emotional challenges to complete Saturday’s 75 mile ride. On Sunday some riders opted for a hike while others rode west on top of the spectacular Mogollon rim with distances of 30-50 miles respectively. It was a new trip for the team and I want to thank Ignacio for laying out the routes and the team members for stepping up to help from everything from doing dishes to lighting the nightly fire pit. Thanks also to Joel, Jim, and Mary Belle for their help.
This weekend is the MBAA MTB Race in Flagstaff. So far, Damiano, Olivia, Alex, Axel, Thomas, Katrina, William and Maggie have signed up. You must inform Ignacio by tomorrow if you plan on attending so he can purchase the necessary supplies. Registration is on your own and closes on Thursday night, so please don’t wait too long. Registration can be done at www.mbaa.net
Ignacio will be driving a team van to the event on Friday and will leave the clubhouse at 9am sharp. The team will return on Sunday late afternoon at approx. 6pm.
Also this weekend there is a time trial at Picacho Peak, Arizona. Information for that can be found here: https://www.azcycling.org/event/3-bears-tt-1/. Please let us know if you might be interested.
The following weekend on May 8-9, there is another MTB race in Prescott. Please communicate with us if you want to go. For this last MTB race we will again leave on Friday at 9am and return late on Sunday. This will be the last MTB race of the spring season. More information can be found at www.mbaa.net
The weeks of May 10th and 17th are likely going to mean finals at school for most of you. With that we understand that attendance may fluctuate and we very much understand. We want for school to come before bikes, so please take care of school first. Please come to practice when it will help you de-stress for the studying and the exams to come.
For the youth who are still racing we will ensure that practices and workouts are tailored in such a way that you are able to be your best at the events. For those of you not racing we are going to continue to focus on general strength, endurance and skills.
Coach Ignacio will be sending out more information on Summer Bike Camp in the next few days. A reminder the sessions are June 7-11, June 14-18 and June 21-25. All must commit to volunteering one week, with additional weeks of compensated work possible depending on availability.
Note that this Thursday we will combine the two groups to both participate with Coach Daniela and her bodywork sessions. That change and the rest of this week’s practices are here on the Genius.
