We had a tremendous three weeks of Summer Bike Camp. We got through some record heat temperatures and together we brought smiles and miles to over 150 kids that participated this year. Hopefully the camp will start a cycle for newcomers to El Grupo. Many of our team members in the senior programs of BikePacking and Team have started out in a Summer Bike Camp and we hope that trend continues. Our semester based Grupito program would be the perfect follow up to Bike Camp.
Speaking of the El Grupo cycle, it was rewarding to witness our Team and BikePacking members wor
k the camp as junior counselors. Giving back to the community is an important aspect of the organization and the cycle comes fully around when team members instruct and teach lessons they’ve learned while a part of El Grupo.
We are extremely proud of our two members that attended Road Nationals in Florida this past week. Damiano podiumed in every event of the 11-12 age bracket with incredible silber medals in the time trial and criterium while snagging bronze in the road race. Myles would take 15th in the 17-18 road race, 27th in the tt despite mechanical issues and 31st in the criterium.
We will get back to practices on Wednesday night with a mtb shortrack evening, followed by a morning endurance road ride. Here is the schedule for next week.
