After a year’s absence due to Covid, it was with great anticipation that the team traveled to Flagstaff for the first NICA event of the season. The team has practiced really well the past month and we were excited to test our race fitness. Tomas (pictured) would be in the first race of the day and with a fine 2nd place, he’d set the tone for a big Sunday.

We’d take many wins, but equally as important were all the riders new the series and racing for the first time. It was so evident as they crossed the finish line that they were exhausted from pushing their comfort zones and satisfied they’d done their best. The El Grupo Composite team would place 3rd in the team standings by day’s end. Results can be found here;

Note we are in D2 South Conference with teams Catalina Foothills HS, Tucson High School and El Grupo Composite.
We have many people to thank for a smooth weekend. First, thanks to Coach Ignacio and Daniela for securing our camping area and setting up our footprint. Thanks to Shannon and her amazing parent volunteers for running the kitchen. The team is always incredibly well fed all weekend thanks to your hard work. Shannon will send out another SignUp Genius next week for help at the second race.
Thanks to Coach Chuck for driving one of the vans up there and to Richard Knutson for all his efforts to help fix and maintain the bikes.
Obviously we want to keep this incredible momentum going and will keep focused on having fun and challenging practices. Here is a look at our practices and schedule for the next few weeks;
