El Grupo Scholarship OPEN!!

Happy Wednesday everyone! I am super thrilled to announce that El Grupo is opening up the El Grupo scholarship for the second year now!

WHAT IS IT?

We know it’s really hard to pay for all the expenses of education. El Grupo would like to fundraise on behalf of scholarship recipients to help them pay for some of those costs. We are hoping to distribute between $2000 and $5000 dollars among the recipients to help with things like books, fees, necessary equipment, etc.

You have worked really hard as a member of the team and community and as a student, we would like to help you continue to reach for your goals!

WHO CAN APPLY?

Any current El Grupo high school senior OR an El Grupo alumni that has graduated within the last 2 years. You have to be planning to enter some form of post-high school education – community college, university, vocational school, or some kind of training program.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

Fill in the attached application and submit it NO LATER THAN January 19th.

You ALSO have to attend a mandatory info session on Saturday, December 29th at 11:30am in the El Grupo Academic Space.

WHAT IF I’M ON A RIDE?

No problem! Coach Ben has planned to end the ride in time for you to attend the session. If you are an alumni planning to apply, you also need to come.

If you have any problems making that session, contact me ASAP! julia@elgrupocycling.org

SO WHAT IS THE TIME FRAME AGAIN?

Now!  It is now open so you have from December 19th to January 19th to complete and turn it in.

WHAT ARE ALL THE DETAILS?

They are in the attached documents!

WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS OR WANT HELP?

That is what I’m here for! Contact me at any time and I am happy to help you work on your application or answer questions.

Academic Check-Ins & Goal setting

Hello all! Ignacio, Max, Ben, and I have talked over the best way to help everyone get there check-ins done this semester, given how busy you are. Here’s what we have worked out:

Yep, everyone is required to come in at least 2 times each semester. The first one is a check-in where we get to talk about setting your academic, cycling, and personal goals. This is when we can sit down and make a calendar of all the big things coming up in your life, and talk about how you’re going to get there. Every other visit after that is based on what you want/need to do, and you can work with someone, or just use the space and do your own thing.

When do you come in for this first meeting? Ideally, very soon! But we know the season is jam-packed and you all have lives. So we want to offer this: you can do a check in at ANY normally scheduled Academic Hours. OR, during the Fall Break from October 8 – 12, which is when Max, Ben, and Ignacio will be helping with the check-ins. If you can’t come earlier, the Fall Break option is when you NEED to come in – not later in the semester.

Please PICK an appointment slot from the link below, I will email you with a reminder!

Remember, this first check in is about YOU and helping you visualize your goals.

As always, don’t hesitate to get ahold of me if you have any questions.

Fun Fact: September 19th, 1983 is the date that the West Indies island nations of St. Kitts and Nevis gained independence from England.

Academic Hours this week

Happy Monday everyone!

A reminder that school is back in session and so are Academic Hours! We are combining them with cycling goal-setting, so the first of the two meetings everyone has this semester is all about your goals – cycling, academic, personal, etc. Erika and I are super excited to help you think about where you are now and where you want to go, and how we can help you.

This week I (Julia) will NOT be at the clubhouse between 2 – 3:30(ish)pm on WEDNESDAY before practice. I have a meeting, but I’m going to zip back after it’s done so hopefully will be available for a bit before Wednesday practice for anyone that wants to get a meeting in.

Regularly scheduled hours:
Monday 4:30 – 6:30PM Julia & Erika
Wednesday: 1:30 – 4:00PM Julia
Friday: after school hours w/Erika by PRIOR APPOINTMENT

Looking forward to seeing everyone this semester!

Fun fact: August 20, 1909 was the first time Pluto was officially photographed, but it wasn’t officially discovered for another 21 years!
