Hey hey hey everyone- we had a pretty solid training week last week. We’re gonna turn it up a little bit this next week with slightly longer and harder rides, as well as harder exercises during strength training with Dani.
Meetings!! If you have a meeting scheduled with Ben and me, please come prepared to talk about some goals for the spring season- we’re ok with ideas that are outside the box! Now is the time for us to know what you all want to do, because we have tons of time to prepare physically, mentally, and logistically.
Lights!! Once again, everybody bring lights! I don’t want anybody to face no lights consequences, but there’s no hiding it once we’re out and it’s dark. I’m a generally observant person, Ben even more so, and your bike is glaringly dark when it has no lights. It’s not like you’re gonna somehow, magically, sneak by unnoticed. You will NOT ride outside if you don’t bring lights this week. Ben and I will make you do a trainer workout.
Practice this week:
Tuesday– 4:30PM-6:30pm. Road Bikes. Endurance. Training w Dani after.
Wednesday– 3:45 & 4:30 – 6:30pm. Road Bikes. Endurance. Training w Dani after.
Thursday– 4:30PM – 6:30pm. Road Bikes. Endurance. Training w Dani after.
Saturday– 2 plans:
- Meet 7, leave 7:30, back around noon: Kaileen, Izzie, Caleb, Max , Sam, Nathaniel, Izaac, Myles, Quinn, Rogan, Colombi, Oliver, Sotelo
- Meet at 7:30, leave at 8AM. Back around 11:00: (everybody else)
- Meet 7, leave 7:30, back around noon: Kaileen, Izzie, Caleb, Max, Sam, Nathaniel, Izaac, Myles, Quinn, Rogan, Colombi, Oliver, Sotelo

Dress for SUCCESS (warmth)!! Lastly, dress warm! Winter is here. If you need clothing, ask me! Generally, you should start a ride feeling a little bit chilly, then as you start to pedal you’ll warm up. Also, Tucson is tough because we’ll start rides and it’ll be 35 degrees, and when we get home it’ll be 70 degrees. Cycling clothing is made so that you can take it off or put it on as the weather changes. Arm and leg warmers, for example, you can strip off and stuff into your pockets as the day warms up.
As a rule of thumb:
- Below 60 degrees, wear arm warmers and a baselayer. (I wear leg warmers or tights below 60. I don’t mess around with cold knees)
- Below 55, add a vest and gloves.
- Below 50, definitely put on leg warmers.
- Below 45, a “neck sock” or “buff” is really nice
- Below 40, trade the vest for a full length windbreaker or thermal (fleece lined) jacket.
There is a lot of wiggle room for personal comfort and differences, but certain things (like your knees) can be seriously damaged by the cold even if you feel “tough” enough to not wear leg warmers. Winter riding can be really fun and beautiful, but it’s no good if you’re freezing your buns off. If you feel like one thing is always cold, like your feet, let me know and I can give you some suggestions for staying comfy.
Late post here chaps, sorry. You will receive race calendars this week for the Spring season. You’ll take them home with you and bring them back for parent/student/coach meetings with some ideas of which races you want to do. If you haven’t signed up for a meeting yet, please do! Lights are mandatory. Both a… Read more »
Looks like rain, folks. If we can ride, we will. Come prepared for cross training work, though. Bring good shoes. If we’re confined to the indoors, we’ll be focusing on relearning 1) land exercises and form and 2) how to ride rollers. If we can ride, we’ll ride. If you bike to practice, make sure… Read more »
Hey Everybody! Hope you all enjoyed your little break. Ben and I had a doozey of a trip out to New Mexico.
