Working together with local schools, El Grupo brings programming to schools both as in school curriculum and through after school bike clubs!

School Based Programs

After School Clubs

Escuela Manzo

Manzo Elementary is home to el Grupo’s long standing Manzo Bike Club in the center of Barrio Hollywood on Tucson’s westside. Through the years hundreds of 7-11 year old’s have learned the skills and understanding to group ride safely on their neighborhood streets and beyond. The Loop is often our conduit for field trips to places such as Mission Garden, the downtown Fire Station and the Sweetwater reserve. Splash pads are a popular destination along with other shady refuges when the temps are high. Many students have ridden the 50 k course of El Tour the past few years with training rides on A Mountain and The Loop. Manzo Bike Club takes pride in leading neighborhood cleanups and participating in street tree planting for future shade! Our annual ride and campout to Catalina State park is a highlight with many of the kids experiencing their first time sleeping outdoors! Go Bobcats!

Davis-Romero Bilingual Elementary

Davis Bike Club is an after school club where students come together to ride bikes, learn cycling skills, and participate in activities related to biking. Part of the bike club curriculum is bike safety education such as learning helmet use, traffic rules, and safe riding techniques. The bike club also allows students to stay active after school and enjoy the outdoors. The club can be adapted for different skill levels, making it accessible and enjoyable for all students 2nd grade through 5th grade.

In-School Electives

Nosotros Academy

El Grupo is partnering with Nosotros Academy this fall  to provide their middle school students with a bike programming elective. Outride’s ‘Riding for Focus’ (R4F} grant supplies bikes, curriculum, and training while  Nosotros and El Grupo will team up to provide coaching and additional cycling opportunities. We are excited to incorporate the R4F curriculum  with the goal of improving the cognitive, physical and socio-emotional well being of these students through cycling and camaraderie.

If your youth is enrolled at Nosotros Academy and is interested in Bike Club, please contact your school administrators to add this elective!

Tully Elementary

Tully Bike Club is a school based club for kindergarten and first grade students hoping to either learn to ride a bike or improve their cycling skills. The goals of Tully Bike Club are to promote physical activity, build confidence, and learn how to ride safely and responsibly. The club can be adapted for different skill levels, making it accessible and enjoyable for all students in kindergarten through first grade.
